Just noticed that Trump is now down with 19. No, not down in bed with a 19-year-old; she'd be too old for his pedophiliacal proclivities. I’m referring to The Economist / YouGov's latest Net Approval Rating from November 26, in which Trump hit minus 19%, a new low for this administration.

While the lyrics of the Steely Dan song in the title are about an older man wanting to seduce a 19-year-old girl, in Trump's case it's more about the GOP seducing voters, both MAGA and non-MAGA, into believing in the glorious future it promised them. The gratification that GOP politicians enjoy from this seduction is not sexual but monetary.

In other words, evidence of this gratification can be seen on their balance sheets rather than their bed sheets.

Yet it’s still a kind of rape. With Trump and many GOP politicians, rapaciousness and rape often go hand in hand, semantically reflecting the origin of both words from the Latin rapere, to seize. With his ill-advised tariffs, Trump seized power that properly resides in Congress, and the repercussions are being borne by consumers in the form of higher prices. Initially he denied any connection between tariffs and inflation, just as he denies the allegations of rape and sexual assault. But inflation is catching up with him, just as the allegations will. It’s only a matter of time.

For the snake is now biting its tail, and the destruction wrought by Trump will, sooner or later, lead to democratic rebirth.
