Meet Zohran Mamdani’s counterpart-Julie Menin

Concurrent with the election of Zohran Mamdani as Mayor, NYC elected all 51 members of the Council (overwhelmingly Democratic). The Democratic Caucus has meet and according to the New York Times 36 members are supporting Julie Menin a moderate Councilmember from the wealthy 5th district (Upper East Side). NYC has a strong Mayor system, so Mamdani will have a measure of autonomy, but any policy requiring legislation will likely have to get consensus from Ms. Menin.
