It's only a matter of time...
I’m wondering if Democratic politicians and their representatives in the media need to stop making reference to the “Trump Administration.”
And begin referring to the “Trump/Vance Administration.”
Because JD Vance will become President. I don’t believe it’s a question of “if,” but rather of “when.”
tRump is not well. He is inarguably battling numerous ailments. Dementia, clearly. Venous insufficiency….they’ve admitted to that. Strokes? Seems likely.
Democrats will never have to run against tRump again. But they will have to run against Vance. And Vance is all the evilness of tRump, wrapped up in someone who….unlike tRump….can be expected to be relatively competent.
Of course, that’s a low bar to clear. But I think he’s likely to clean house. You think Vance is going to keep a bunch of Fox News bobbleheads in charge of things? You think RFK, Jr. and “Doctor” Oz are going to still have jobs?
So I think Dems need to start tying Vance to the failures and corruption of tRump.
Now, there’s a contrary argument to be made. MAGA is definitely in large part a cult of personality. When tRump is gone and John Roberts swears in Vance, MAGA will be helmed by somebody with the personality of a pair of wet, sandy swim trunks riding up your butt crack. He’ll never excite the cult members the way Donnie does.
I think it’s a question of which voters the Democrats hope to peel off.
And sadly, they seem to think that the road to victory is to appeal to tRump’s base. And with their great orange leader gone, perhaps some of MAGA would reject Vance. Heck, I’m sure some will accuse him of poisoning tRump so he could become President.
If this is the case, then perhaps equating Vance with tRump would be a mistake. Perhaps doing so would give him street cred with tRump’s worshippers and keep them in the fold.
But I think the road to victory comes in peeling off the large quantity of tRump voters who aren’t hardcore. The mushy, low information voters who are now realizing that they’re not going to get the lower prices and great healthcare they were promised. Who look aghast at the destruction of the East Wing in order to build a mad king’s ballroom.
You tie Vance to tRump and I think a lot of these people might consider voting for a Democrat. Or at the very least, staying home and not voting.
What are your thoughts?
