“Loyalty to the Constitution"” — these are words either foreign to the trump regime or they want to intimidate the nation into submission that loyalty to trump trumps Loyalty to the Constitution.
The Department of War declared war (on twitter) against Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, one of six Democratic lawmakers who made a video posted to social media last week reminding active duty service members that they can refuse to follow illegal orders. www.yahoo.com/…
It threatens to recall Senator Mark Kelly to active duty (since he was a Captain in the Navy) for court-martial proceedings. It also acts as a threat to all who dare question the White House.
Note that the tweet does not mention the words “illegal orders” the subject of the video posted by Kelly and 5 other Congress Reps/Senators. It also acts as a threat to service members that they better obey orders since “all orders are presumed to be lawful.”
The announcement today came after trump’s recent social media posts stating that “Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL” and “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH.”
A later tweet by Hegseth referred to Sen. Kelly and others as the “Seditious Six.”
Senator Kelly responded to Hegseth, Secretary of the Dept. of War thus -
"Loyalty to the Constitution" is a bedrock principle of the American Constitution and military service. This plaque at West Point makes it very clear --
Loyalty to the Constitution
The United States boldly broke with the ancient military custom of swearing loyalty to a leader. Article VI required that American Officers thereafter swear loyalty to our basic law, the Constitution.
While many other nations have suffered military coups, the United States never has. Our American Code of Military Obedience requires that, should orders and the law ever conflict, our officers must obey the law. Many other nations have adopted our principle of loyalty to the basic law.
This nation must have military leaders of principle and integrity so strong that their oaths to support and defend the Constitution will unfailingly govern their actions. The purpose of the United States Military Academy is to provide such leaders of character.
Article Six of the United States Constitution states —
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be Required as a Qualification To any Office or public Trust under the United States.
From US military academies focus on oaths and loyalty to Constitution -
Maj. Joe Amoroso teaches his students, known as yearlings, in SS202 American Politics at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point -
'Their loyalty is “not about particular candidates. It’s not a particular person or personality that occupies these positions. It’s about the Constitution.”'
At West Point, the Constitution and the oaths are not only embedded throughout the curriculum, they also permeate the campus.
We all know that the trump regime will use the power of the Executive branch along with a compliant republican controlled Congress to threaten, intimidate and punish everyone in the opposition party — it’s their ticket to permanent rule and keeping trump out of jail. Lower courts will throw out most cases (as they have been consistently doing) but the White House will send them to the friendly halls of the SCOTUS, whose majority seems to care less about loyalty to the Constitution than to the party.
But the people are wisening up the destructive forces unleashed by this regime thanks to folks like you who are relentlessly busy spreading the truth. Let’s keep it up. This latest lunatic act by the White House will not sit well with the American public, which is getting weary of its daily barrage of abuses of the Constitution.
Updates
Senator Mark Kelly, in an interview with Rachel Maddow, emphasized his view that "it's almost comical" that Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are calling it a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice that he cited part of the Uniform Code of Military Justice in a recent video. Kelly explained his participation in the video in the context of protecting members of the military from a president who "doesn't seem to care about the Constitution, the rule of law."
Next on the regime’s retribution list, Scouting America (formerly known as Boy Scouts).
From www.npr.org/… -
Hegseth is planning for the military to sever all ties with Scouting America, saying the group once known as the Boy Scouts is no longer a meritocracy and has become an organization designed to "attack boy-friendly spaces."
In a draft memo to Congress, which sources shared with NPR but which has not yet been sent, Hegseth criticizes Scouting for being "genderless" and for promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
Why? Because they dropped the word "Boy" from the group’s name?
