Smiling Mamdani has testicles of titanium, and he will need them, because the vicious undercutting and racist attacks from the braying capitalist NY media (and the bottom dwelling interests they so fervently represent) are just getting started.
When Mamdani finally takes office on January 1st, it will be knives out. I hope he has a plan to have a robust media response to the pending onslaught of spittle-flecked propaganda, because the monied vultures that run the economy will not be placated by reasonability.
They went after Mayor diBlasio relentlessly for 8 years ( for his mixed family, and his liberal stances), mostly led by that thug cretin, Kevin Lynch of the PBA. Tactics like having the NYPD ranks turn their backs en masse at graduation ceremony for new recruits, in order to publicly humiliate the hippy mayor, simply because he attempted to allow the BLM protests to have the space to express their legitimate anger in the public square. These tactics were commonplace the last time an administration tried to make changes ( even incremental ones).
Contrast diBlasio with the then governor Andrew Cuomo: As governor, he instituted curfews ( in the city that allegedly never sleeps) to quell the perceived unrest-- which the police largely instigated. In other words: tacit support for Cuomo from an NYPD that chose to endorse serial groper Cuomo, not to mention the felonious rapist and sociopath in the White House. The police need to be brought under heel, or Mamdani will get nothing done.
Though the transit union leadership offered tepid praise to Mamdani’s full embrace of the working class, no official endorsement came from the TWU this time. This is a union that has lurched like a subway car to the Right under the leadership of populist windbag at its helm, John Samuelson: a man who thinks intellectuals are the problem, and has variously launched all out attacks against congestion pricing, carriage horse removal, and protests for Palestine, with the kind of Fettermanesque fervor that only Fox News could love. Such is the empty-headed right-wing populism that still exists on too many union boards in NYC. But I digress….
Chuck Schumer exists to extract tribute from Wall Street for the Democrats, in doing so he cannot embrace the NEW new dealism that Mamdani has on offer. Chuck has swinging threesomes with “The Baileys” on Long Island, but will say nothing that will offend the financial and real estate sectors. He meanwhile refuses to acknowledge the presence of progressive Jews in NYC of which there are many ( including many NYC politicians). If Schumer exists to protect Jews exclusively as he has more or less claimed ( not his job title), he is even doing a shitty job at that. Since Mamdani walked Trump around the Oval Office on a leash before a battery of reporters last week, you would think Schumer would have sufficient cover to come out at a press conference and pledge to work with Mamdani.
