Hundreds, maybe even thousands, of the biggest MAGA influencers on Twitter are about as American as the factory where a MAGA hat is made, which is to say, not at all. Twitter recently rolled out a feature that shows where an account is really from, accidentally exposing a huge swath of MAGA accounts as foreign actors. These “America First” accounts aren’t just run by people overseas; they’re often nothing more than bots whose only objective is to cause division and anger.
This revelation gives serious legitimacy and momentum to the people who’ve been arguing that MAGA itself is basically a foreign influence operation. And while this story might feel shocking to some, it shouldn’t. We already learned that Russia was paying major right-wing voices, like Dave Rubin, Tim Pool, and Benny Johnson, up to $400,000 a month to push talking points that spread division while boosting a pro-Russia narrative.
This isn’t new, and it isn’t going away.
Ps. Go watch Wicked, For Good… it’s soo good.
