A Russian missile test didn’t exactly go as planned -- but it made a pretty cloud.
x
In Orenburg, at the Yasny missile range, Russian forces carried out an unsuccessful launch of an unidentified missile, which resulted in a purple cloud forming over the area.
This range is frequently used for testing long-range missiles, including those capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

Some analysts think this was another disastrous attempt to fly the "feared" Sarmat missile.
The last time exploded in its launch pad, this time the launch spot was moved to a new military site and it gave us an aerial display.

The deep violet and crimson tones are produced by nitrogen tetroxide (N₂O₄) and NOx compounds released when hypergolic propellants burn or vent during catastrophic failure. These propellants are used in Russia’s heavy ICBM families based at Dombarovsky.

Probable missile types involved:
• UR-100NUTTKh (SS-19 Stiletto)
• R-36M2 / RS-20 (SS-18)
Both rely on UDMH fuel and nitrogen tetroxide oxidizer, which creates the unmistakable purple-red cloud when a booster ruptures or crashes. 4/8
The telemetry of damaged missile match a boost-phase failure in the first seconds after launch. Russia is unlikely to acknowledge the incident. The Yasny complex is central to its strategic deterrent, and a visible catastrophic failure will be treated as sensitive. 5/8
Speaking of disasters with rockets. Russia uses the Baikonur site in Kazakhstan for space launches.
x
According to media reports, today,a service cabin crashed at Baikonur Cosmodrome during launch towards the International Space Station
According to various sources, incident has left Russia unable to launch astronauts into space-for the first time since 1961
It’s unclear how long repair will take

This may prove to be the single most destabilizing and conflict-spawning decision of the 21st century.

I used to feel sorry for guys like this. But they went to Russia to make a lot more money than they could back home. Some probably were hoodwinked, but I think a lot of them weren’t being coerced. They will undoubtedly all claim that they were duped and ask to be sent home.

Ideas range from joint offensive cyber operations against Russia, and faster and more coordinated attribution of hybrid attacks by quickly pointing the finger at Moscow, to surprise NATO-led military exercises, according to two senior European government officials and three EU diplomats.
“The Russians are constantly testing the limits — what is the response, how far can we go?” Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže noted in an interview. A more “proactive response is needed,” she told POLITICO. “And it’s not talking that sends a signal — it’s doing.”
….
Allies must “be more proactive on the cyber offensive,” said Latvia's Braže, and focus on “increasing situational awareness — getting security and intelligence services together and coordinated.”
In practice, countries could use cyber methods to target systems critical to Russia’s war effort, like the Alabuga economic zone in Tatarstan in east-central Russia, where Moscow is producing Shahed drones, as well as energy facilities or trains carrying weapons, said Filip Bryjka, a political scientist and hybrid threat expert at the Polish Academy of Sciences. “We could attack the system and disrupt their functioning,” he added.

Taking Belarus to court is a waste of time.
You know what would be a better response? Sending dozens of balloons back to Belarus carrying cookies, sweets and toys for children.
Earlier, Lithuanian officials said that November has seen the “most intense” wave of airborne balloons launched from Belarus to date.
On November 24, Vilnius Airport was forced to halt operations twice because balloons carrying contraband entered its airspace. According to the National Crisis Management Center, more than 40 weather balloons were detected.
