You’re the ones who tell the children
That happiness comes from things
You taught them achievements
Were better than sentiments
You forced them to follow your dreams
Recycled dreams that were once your own
Forcing them to put aside their own
Until they forgot what they once dreamed
---
You are the ones who are to blame, for the world having lost its way
You are the ones who are to blame, for compassion in danger of extinction
You are the ones who are to blame, for the adults they became
It was you who taught them that success was about money and fame
---
You went from hanging their drawings on your fridge
To telling them, being an artist was being a loser in the game
Instead of teaching them how to be unique
You taught them how to fade into the public
Instead of teaching them how to stand out
You taught them how to blend in the crowd
Today you wonder why so many of your children
Follow along, blended in the cruelty of the many
---
You are the ones who stripped their humanity, forced them into conformity
You are the ones who taught them these so-called values of society
You are the ones who made them forget their humanity
It was you who taught them that life was about power and greed
---
You were more concerned about them looking good, than being good
You taught them that beauty was more important than personality
You showed them that love was conditional and superficial
Some kind of bargaining chip or worse a reward
You groomed them to fulfill your dreams
Told them their own were futile or juvenile
Taught them a dollar earned is a dollar saved
But didn’t teach them, a seed of kindness is love spread
---
You, society, is to blame for our loss of humanity
Today
