In another act of environmental sabotage in the name of corporate greed, the Trump EPA just decided to make forever chemical use legal again. In addition, they decided to make it harder to discover what products contain these chemicals.
This is an issue we can actually win with collective action. It will not be easy, primarily due to the government’s decision to keep the information hidden. But, we can all begin the process of identifying the products, then the companies that use these chemicals. Then identifying the companies that are the source of the chemicals.
It might be well worth putting a little pressure on state agencies to help with the data collection.
Then, very simply, we boycott not just the product, but as many as possible of all of the products sold by the producing companies. This is also a case where close might just be good enough. Use a nuclear strategy. Plan a five year boycott of all products by offending companies. If the risk is high enough, the corporate planning will change. The good news is that there are already alternative products.
Now, if all goes well, one or two greedy corporations will be put out of business. Killed. Then, we can turn our attention to any remaining companies fool enough to keep playing their kill the planet for a profit game.
At this stage, I’d like to begin a conversation with folks who already know who was lobbying for the rule change. Trace their funding to the source and we can begin our own version of FAFO. In honor of Baltimore, we should call ourselves, the ravens
