I’ve been on vacation, and I had a mountain of things to catch up on. But I still felt the need to draw this cartoon about MBS visiting the White House. What annoyed me most about this visit was how shamelessly Trump and many who reported the story tried to rewrite history, using lies that felt bought and paid for.
Trump lied and tried to whitewash MBS’s terrifying record of murdering journalists and crushing dissent. Why does Trump work so hard to protect MBS and the Saudi crown? I’m sure it has nothing to do with the many business deals Trump and his family have with Saudi Arabia. It definitely couldn’t be the $40 million they made in deals with the Saudis just last year alone. And surely it’s not related to the Trump Organization’s announcement of a $63 billion real estate project there. And of course it would never be because the Saudi government invested $2 billion into Jared Kushner’s hedge fund. Total coincidence. It’s bad enough that the U.S. government has a long history of calling Saudi Arabia a friend and ally. But Trump somehow managed to make the whole thing even worse.
Lastly, I want to give the ABC reporter her flowers for asking MBS some tough questions. She earned some major props for that. But it’s sad that she and every mainstream journalist would never, in a million years, ask Bibi Netanyahu questions like that, even though his government has killed just as many, if not more, journalists and dissidents.
