Who Is Next?

I just wanted to drop a quick diary about a post I noticed on Facebook.

In the aftermath of the recent elections , where Democrats were phenomenally successful, there has been major rumblings coming from elected Republicans, specifically in the House. We saw MTG announce her upcoming resignation, and have heard there are more to follow.

I suspect that my Congressman might be one to throw in the white flag soon.

I live in Jacksonville, Florida, and am represented by Congressman John Rutherford. He was, prior to being elected to the House, the Sheriff of Duval County. He has been a recipient of many emails and phone calls from me, as I don’t agree with him on much. He seems to vote with Trump all the time (96.6%) and has not held a Town Hall meeting since elected in 2017.

In the days before Thanksgiving, I took a peek at my facebook account (mostly dormant) and came across a Facebook post by Rutherford on November 20th:

As I sit at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Jacksonville with my wife who is battling lung cancer, I can’t describe my disappointment reading claims made by a few of my “friends” in the House that I missed a vote on the Plaskett matter due to my involvement in some made up “deal” for another Republican member of the House.

These colleagues could have easily called me to ask why I missed some of the votes this week. Instead, they trashed my character in the media and denounced me.

I expect that my true friends who did this, and who now know I was home supporting my wife and family, will now personally and publicly apologize.

For the record, if I could’ve voted, it would have been an easy yes. In fact, I voted earlier against the Motion to Refer that would’ve blocked it from coming to the floor.

With him fighting with his Republican colleagues and a wife with a very unfortunate diagnosis, it wouldn’t surprise me if his letter of resignation from the House of Representatives was already drafted.
